Enabling Cooperation among Disconnected Mobile Users
نویسندگان
چکیده
Mobile computing and workgroup computing are emerging technologies which have so far been treated independently. Current approaches to support cooperative work neglect the special characteristics of mobile environments like limited bandwidth or temporary disconnection. On the other hand, approaches to support disconnected operation in mobile environments rely on the assumption that the degree of data-sharing is low which is obviously not appropriate for cooperative work. In this paper, we utilize the COACT cooperative transaction model [25, 31, 19] to provide support for parallel, disconnected activities. The model incorporates the notion of resolvable, simultaneous work. We show how the COACT merge algorithm reduces conflicts by exploiting operation semantics and offering consistent sequences of operations. We believe that our new approach is a viable solution to the growing demand for cooperation in mobile environments.

Masters Thesis: COOPERATIVE NETWORKS:
The thesis aims at extending the capabilities of devices and enabling cooperation, i.e., data connection sharing, among users who may or may not necessarily be related to or know each other. To achieve this objective as well as to validate the results of our theoretical analysis, we developed a smart-phone application for data connection sharing. By means of data connection sharing, users may i...
متن کاملAn Architecture for Supporting Disconnected Operation in Workflow: An XML-Based Approach
Nowadays, there exist few options to support workflow and cooperation among mobile users using non-traditional computing platforms such as Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs). Considering the growing need for mobility and the more frequent use of mobile devices, it is necessary to provide support for the integration of these to the work environments. In this work, we present the development of t...
متن کاملEnabling Cost-Effective Light-Weight Disconnected Workflow for Web-based Teamwork Support
Research into Web-based teamwork support using workflow has assumed that the network connection exists permanently, i.e. online. However, there is an increasing demand that workflow environments should also support the disconnected offline mobile scenario which is so far not well addressed. This paper identifies radical requirements, describes cost-effective design and implementation strategies...
متن کاملExtending Collaboration to Mobile Environments
Most collaborative systems assume that users have access to workspaces through which they can access the entire collaborative context. This is often not the case with mobile users in global environments. Such users can often be disconnected from their contexts and their contribution in the collaboration can be less effective. Mobile environments provide an opportunity to improve connectivity to...
متن کاملNetwork Selection Cooperation among Mobile Users in Heterogeneous Wireless Networks with Evolutionary Game Approach
In this paper, we consider the cooperation among users in heterogeneous wireless networks (HetNets). An important issue for service providers in terms of load balancing and quality of serves are investigated. We propose a method toward load balancing in HetNets including three tiers: macrocell, picocell and femtocell. We study the competition among sub-area mobile users to share the limited amo...
